Standard 10:  The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

1.  The teacher collaborates with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth.

Evidence 1:  Peer Review Course, 2014 Cohort, Training Certificate

Description:  During this course early childhood education colleagues gathered to support and learn with each other while preparing portfolios to obtain licensure.

Analysis:  Through this class I have been able to meet with other colleagues in my profession.  This gathering has increased my ability to reflect upon lesson plans, classroom observations, and the students in my care.  Through this reflection process I have gained valuable insights that have expanding the learning in my classroom and the minds of my students.

Evidence 2:  Conference Report

Description:  This document was written while meeting with a parent, our principal and the after school provider to ease the transition from preschool to after school care.

Analysis:  When one of my students seemed to be struggling with the transition from the school day to after school care, a meeting was planned with the parent, our after school provider, the principal and myself.  During the meeting each member was able to share observations of the child which created a clearer picture of the child's strengths and weaknesses. With this information we were able to create a plan that would ease the transition process for this individual.  The child was invited to the last five minutes of the meeting to identify tools that would aid him in this transition.  Through our collaboration we were better able to serve the child and his family.

Evidence 3:  Letter From Second Grade Teacher

Description:  This letter describes a discussion between the K-1 teacher, 2-3 teacher and myself regarding concerns for a second grade student.

Analysis:  At the beginning of the school year, the 2nd and 3rd grade teacher asked the K-1 teacher and myself to aid in planning some strategies for one of her students that the K-1 teacher and I had experience with while in first grade the previous year.  As we discussed the student and the tools that helped to encourage and motivate him, along with those that put him off, we were able to help his current teacher plan and implement some strategies to aid the student while in specific learning situations.  This conversation remains on-going with the student making progress.

2.  The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning and to advance the profession.

Evidence 1:  Peer Review Course, 2014 Cohort, Training Certificate

Description:  During this course early childhood education colleagues gathered to support and learn with each other while preparing portfolios to obtain licensure.

Analysis:  This course has provided me with many valuable insights.  I have found myself examining the way in which I approach the children within my classroom, and other professionals within the field.  This examination has led to a change in classroom space and has greatly influenced the way in which I place materials within my classroom.  The ability to converse and learn from other professionals, has brought a sense of newness and refreshment that I haven't experienced since I first started teaching.

Evidence 2:  School Technology Chair

Description:  I serve on our school team as the technology chair.

Analysis:  Due to small numbers at our school and limited resources, staff are asked to share their talents in many ways. If we are knowledgeable about a certain topic, we are asked to help others in whatever way we can.  I am able to work my way around a computer, and because of this have been asked to be the school's technology chair.  I set up new computers, try to fix broken computers, keep an eye on software installation and updates and try to troubleshoot when various problems arise that range from computer issues to wireless issues.

Evidence 3:  Parent Teacher Organization Representative

Description:  I serve as the staff liaison to the Parent Teacher Organization at our school.

Analysis:  In taking on this leadership role within our school community, I have been able to build stronger ties to the families that we serve.  I have a greater sense of what is important to them and the issues that they are facing.  I am able to bring all of the knowledge and experience that I have acquired over the past 14 years, and offer meaningful suggestions to resolve issues plaguing our families.
