PS7: Employs a variety of methods to systematically observe, record, monitor, and document young children's activities and behavior for the purpose of planning appropriate and individualized programs, environments, and interactions

Evidence 1:  Observation Station

Description:  These materials are located in a centralized location in my classroom to record daily observations of children.

Analysis:  Observation is the primary method of gaining insight into the various facets of a child's development.  By setting up an area in my classroom containing all of the materials that I need for recording my observations of children, I am better able to take note of behaviors and attempt to better understand and predict those behaviors exhibited by the children within my care.

Evidence 2:  Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum Individual Child Profile

Description:  This assessment is filled out three times per year for each child in my classroom.

Analysis:  The Individual Child Profile compiled by Creative Curriculum aids in tracking skills throughout an entire school year.  As I complete this assessment for each student I am able to see development spaced over time, and then share that with families.  Portfolios that are compiled of student work throughout the year aid in this process of sharing as well.

Evidence 3:  Photograph of Sunflower Documentation

Description:  I created this documentation display for children and families during our sunflower study.

Analysis:  After noting a child's interest in sunflowers, we began a classroom investigation of them.  One activity that the children participated in was observing a sunflower in the sensory table using rulers, a scale and magnifying glasses.  Children then created representational drawings of them.  We will continue various studies such as this throughout the year.  I will be able to save these images in each child's portfolio and compare it with each consecutive drawing throughout the year.
